Family, friends, dignitaries and townsfolk all gathered in Langdon on Saturday morning as long-time resident and community icon, Gordon Mowat, had a new street named in his honor.  Mr Mowat, who passed away 2 years ago, was praised for his passion for, and leadership in, his community.

Event organizer, Chrissy Craig, MC'ed the event that featured a free pancake & ham breakfast, coffee, refrehments and several speeches. Craig touched on some of Mr Mowat's accomplishments, "Gordon was a long time volunteer in this region.  He was involved in setting up the Langdon Community Association.  He sat on numerous boards such as the Bow Valley Ag Society and the Bow North Recreation Board.  He also was one of the people who had a vision that Langdon would need recreation and a high school in the future.  20 years ago he started the process of making that vision a reality.  Today we are standing on the land that is ready for recreation and a high school because of his vision."

Councillor Albert Schule, a decades-long friend of Mr Mowat, told stories of everything from coffee-house discussions to major community developments Mr Mowat was invloved with.

Leela Aheer, MLA for Chestermere-Strathmore, was also on hand to congratulate the Mowat family on their honor.

Mr Mowat's daughters, son In-laws and grandchildren gathered on stage to accept replica street signs and to thank the town for the dedication ceremony.
