Hi Strathmore,

this is Monique again. If you know me, then you’ll know that I love rodeo, and I love going to the Stampede. This weekend was the kick-off to the Calgary Stampede. Usually I go near the end of the Stampede, to get away from large crowds.

Well this year I called up my sister and brother-in-law and said, lets go, on Sunday.

I was prepared with my list of stampede to-dos. One, buy a belt buckle, two, eat a corndog, three, watch rodeo, four go on sky ride, and so on.

I learned my lesson. Stay on the regular days that I normally go on. Wow were the crowds huge on Sunday. I actually saw guided tour groups. Have you ever seen that, a tour group to go to a fairground?

We didn’t get on the sky ride, there were way too many people there. But we did get our dream home tickets. This year they don’t have the paper tickets that you stuff down in the bin. Saving paper and all.

It was a scorcher out there, but like always it’s crazy weather throughout the day, so it rained a bit and then the sun came back out.

The day was wrapped up with us doing our traditional end of stampede activity, the water game battle royale. We found a water game that wasn’t occupied by kids (cause it’s no fun to win against a little kid and take their teddy bear away.)

The three of us lined up side-by-side, ready, aim, fire!

It was my sister that won this year. Usually it’s my brother-in-law that wins, and he lords it over us for the entire of stampede. All in all it was a fun weekend.

Now all I have to do is visit one of the many free pancake breakfasts this week, and load up on pancakes each and every day.

Best,

Monique
