Sportsnet has made the decision to postpone the 2020-21 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season due to the risk of COVID-19 continuing across Canada. The City of Chestermere was scheduled to hold the BOOST National part of the series from December 8 to13 this year.

Chestermere Mayor Marshall Chalmers said, “While we are disappointed that the BOOST National event will be postponed due to COVID-19 and current provincial health regulations, we understand and appreciate the need to keep our community safe.”

Chalmers continued to say, “We look forward to hosting the event in 2021 and we appreciate the confidence that sponsors and event organizers have shown in our community to host such an important world curling event.” Officials from Sportsnet made the announcement today that the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season would be postponed and provided further details about their decision to rescheduled the event. The first three events of the Grand Slam season, including the National event to be held in Chestermere, will now take place in November 2021.

Vice President of Sportsnet and NHL Production Rob Corte said, “The safety and well-being of curlers, volunteers, fans, partners and employees is of the utmost importance to Sportsnet.” He added, “Following careful thought and deliberation, we made the decision to postpone the season until we could safely deliver the world-class competition and intimate fan experience the Grand Slam series is known for.”

Each event will be hosted by the same communities originally selected for the 2020-21 season.

The Tour Challenge will take place in Grande Prairie on September 21 to 26, 2021 at the Coca-Cola Centre, The Masters will take place in Sarnia, Ontario on October 19 to 24, 2021 at the Sarnia Arena, and Nationals will take place in Chestermere on November 2 to 7, 2021 at the Chestermere Recreational Centre.

As a result of the revised season schedule, updated points and prize money details will be confirmed at a later date. Tournament details and ticket information, including refund and roll-over information for ticket holders, is available online at thegrandslamofcurling.com.
