With inflation and rising costs continuing to impact Albertans across the province, it has become increasingly more difficult to buy healthy groceries. If you find yourself in a position where your income can't keep up with costs, Wheatland Family and Community Support Services (WFCSS) offers services like Meals on Wheels to make eating healthy an affordable option again. This service is for frozen meals, but there is also a hot meals program in Strathmore.

Director of WFCSS Crystal Gaudet explained they partnered with Calgary Meals on Wheels to provide healthy dinners in Hussar, Rockyford, and Standard and Wheatland County residents  once every two weeks.

"You can go to the grocery store and spend $100 on healthy food and you're not going to come out with very much, but you can go in and buy TV dinners and potato chips and all kinds of over-processed foods... You can get a lot of that for $100 as compared to the healthy food options. We want to make sure that the people who have low income don't have to worry about their health due to having to eat unhealthy foods," she said.

Through a recent grant from the Calgary Foundation, Gaudet said they've been able to provide a discount for baked goods, frozen soups, and individual meals. On top of that, the grant allowed them to provide a discount on their Good Food Box as well, and also expand their home support program to include a support employee who goes into clients' homes to help with a variety of tasks like grocery shopping, cooking, meal planning, and potentially more.

If you're interested in the program, you can visit their website for more info, which is where you will also find the order form at the bottom of their web page. Once you make your order, you can either pick it up at the WFCSS office, or have it delivered to you.
