The library truly has something for everyone, even your furry four-legged friends.

There is now a patch of green for dogs to rest outside of the Lambert Centre. The concept for the Pet Patch came from Strathmore Municipal Library’s Marion Purwins.

“A couple times when I was on my way into work in the afternoon, there were these little dogs tied up to the bike rack. They were all crouched and looking thirsty and I just thought it would be nice to have a proper place for them to wait for their people,” she said.

“The library has a policy that states that we only accept animals within the library that are service animals,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services. “We wanted to have a proper place where people can have their pets,” she said.

The Pet Patch is a raised pallet that’s been converted into a resting place with some Astro Turf and a few spaces for water bowls. There is also a place to attach a leash.

“Your dog is safe and secure and hydrated,” said Erison.

“Brant Henderson, from Henderson Renovations he is the one who built our fireplace and did a lot of the construction pieces in the library. He put Marion’s vision into reality,” said Erison.

So far the reaction from the public has been phenomenal, according to Purwins.

“It just got posted at the end of last week. Facebook has been phenomenal. People are really happy about it,” she said.

“It literally blew up, people are so thrilled. It’s been shared multiple times, people are tagging other people, and talking about what a good idea it is,” said Erison.

The Pet Patch is located outside of the library section of the Lambert Centre.

In the future, Purwins hopes to see more of the Pet Patches turn up in and around Strathmore.
