The City of Chestermere has announced new regulations aimed at flattening the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our Emergency Management Agency is announcing more measures today to remain ahead of the curve as we have been,” says Chestermere Mayor Marshall Chalmers. “These measures will protect you, your families, your loved ones, your friends, and your community. We, together, must take aggressive measures to stop the spread of this disease before it overwhelms our community.”

There are now seven new rules individuals in Chestermere must abide by.

1. Only immediate family members, and any assigned caregiver, may gather together in a dwelling. Even then, this group is limited to a maximum of 10 people. Immediate family refers to a person’s parents, spouse, children, and siblings, and any person that permanently resides at that dwelling.

2. Anyone who goes out in public must remain at least two meters from another person. The only exception is for members of your immediate family (as defined above).

3. All activities on Chestermere Lake are prohibited until at least June 1. This includes recreational activities.

4. All public and private gatherings, events and festivals are prohibited and suspended.

5. All construction sites are required to have hand-washing and sanitizing stations and all workers must practice safe physical distancing of no less than two meters between people.

6. All builder or developer showhomes, real estate open houses, and private home showings by real estate agents are limited to a maximum of three people at any time in the home. These three people must practice physical distancing of not less than two meters between the people present. Any such dwelling must have a hand-washing, hand sanitizing station or other appropriate options available for visitors.

7. Non-profit groups may no longer gather at physical locations. That includes the Chestermere Recreation Centre, Camp Chestermere, Calgary Yacht Club, and the Synergy Centre for Community Leadership. We know that many of those groups have already moved to online programming, and for that, we thank them. The buildings in which they meet are closed.

“I recognize that these new measures are extensive, but this virus is not letting up,” says Chestermere Mayor Chalmers. “Help us, Chestermere, to prevent any more cases of COVID-19 in our city. Let’s all do our part to protect the people and the city we love.”
