The Calgary Stampede is expected to go ahead this July but not without one of its signature events.

On Thursday, the Stampede announced the Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon races will not take place for 2021.

"As a result of pandemic-related impacts on the 2020 and 2021 chuckwagon racing season across western Canada, the Stampede will not be able to present the Rangeland Derby as part of the 2021 Evening Show," the Stampede said in a news release.

The Grandstand Show which was supposed to feature country superstar Paul Brandt is also not going ahead as planned.

The Stampede said it will host a "reimagined" evening show featuring western events, fireworks and performances by the Young Canadians. More details are expected to be released soon.

This year's Calgary Stampede is scheduled to take place July 9-18.
