A local business in town has gone above and beyond for a fallen hero of Strathmore.

On New Year's Eve, Sgt. Andrew Harnett was killed during a traffic stop with an SUV. Many local organizations, schools, and businesses have gathered together to raise funds for his family, and Origin Malting and Brewing Company is one of them.

“He was a regular in our taproom and he also did a lot for our community,” explained owner Kyle Geeraert. “When we heard the news, we were very saddened. Our community lost a fallen hero, and unfortunately, there is a family that lost a husband, brother, and a future father. We wanted to do everything that we could.”

Kyle and his wife Meleah decided to donate a portion of all sales sold in January to a trust fund to the family.

“We found out that ATB had a trust fund set up and we were able to raise $2,000 from the portion of Origin's sales and the community also donated $704.70 in cash donations,” Geeraert continued.

He continued to say that the community really came out to help donate to the cause.

“We really weren’t sure how it was going to go with COVID-19. We are very pleased with the amount and happy to help in any way.”

Donations can be made to ATB Financial (account #07149-00721001979) or via an electronic transfer to SgtHarnettFamily@gmail.com .
