The has been an increase in reports to the RCMP that there is a small group of scammers back to try again.

Earlier this year RCMP warned the public of a fake gold for gas money scam. The scam itself has someone offering you gold for minimal amounts of money people will tell a story to an unassuming passerby of a lost bank card or possibly they have had a breakdown on a trip and need money to pay for it, they will say they cannot access their money for whatever reason and use their family to get sympathy.

Rockyford Resident Kim Drydale said, " I was driving home on the 564, someone waived me down I pulled over right away a man approached my passenger side offering a gold 24-carat ring for gas money. He told me he had no money and his bank card was broken. He was very vague and I just told him no. Later that day I made a social media post to let people know and I filed a report to the police."

The RCMP are asking everyone to be aware that this scam is making the rounds again and if they have been approached to notify their local RCMP detachment as soon as possible.
