The number of COVID -19 cases has increased again and has claimed another life.  Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer for Alberta said, "We must also sadly report the second death from COVID-19 in our province. This individual was a female in her 80's and a resident in the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary. I would like to extend my sympathies to this woman's family and loved ones this news is extremely sad for all of us."

This disease is particularly deadly to seniors, and more people were infected at this COVID -19 outbreak.  Dr. Hinshaw explains, "Though we are doing everything we can to limit cases of critical illness and death form this serious virus, tragically we know that deaths will occur. We have also learned that one staff member and two other residents at this facility have also tested positive for COVID 19, with an additional eleven residents showing symptoms. These residents' tests are pending and an investigation continues to determine the source of the infection."

Our Provincial total has climbed 358 with 57 new reported cases, which is a jump from the 42 from yesterday.

Three people are the only confirmed recoveries of COVID -19 in Alberta, and AHS will be developing a longer-term process for determining a quicker method of reporting of recovered cases.

Also, the enforcement of public gathers is ongoing with AGLC inspectors who have visited 953 licensed bars and nightclubs throughout the province since March 17.  Any operators not abiding the rules are facing suspending of licences.
