There is still time to make a senior's Christmas this year in Strathmore.  The Stuff A Stocking For A Senior campaign will be wrapping up on December 22 and organizer Marlene Risdon said they still have quite a few names to choose from.

"We have about 300 names left this year, people can pick up names at the store. I am open every day until the 23, or they can call me or contact me on Facebook."

A couple of surprise visitors on the weekend did have Risdon smiling and it was thanks to a suggestion from one of Santa's Elves.

"A mom came in with her two kids and gave me the note and their mother said it is from their elf and it clicked, The Elf on the Shelf, and the kids were so excited."

Risdon went on to say that the note asked the kids to go to the Rack on 3rd and pick two names to shop for, noting that was something she had not seen before and thought it was very sweet.

Risdon did say that in previous years they had businesses and sports teams and clubs who had come in and picked up names but that hasn't been the case this year so she is hoping that this week she will be able to hand out a few more names.

"A lot of times seniors are left out of stuff like this, families and kids get stuff (Christmas gifts), but there's a lot of seniors that have nobody. I've heard back from the lodges, usually on the 24 they'll go and put everything outside the doors, they said, there are a lot of tears and hugs over this because people can't believe that a stranger would actually buy them a gift."

Visit the Rack on 3rd at 277 3rd Ave, or call 403-934-7221 on their Facebook page to get a name to participate in this year's Stuff A Stocking For A Senior.
