The Volleyball season is well underway in town and Strathmore had their first major tournament in late September at Strathmore High School.

Darrell Hargrove coach JV Boys Volleyball talked about the flexible nature of the team, "Due to a last-minute drop out on the boys side the team was actually split into two squads for the weekend, which meant lots of time on the court for all of the boys, and some new leadership opportunities for others."

The squads were led by Captains Josh Allan and Josh Weal, and guest coaches Tomas Moncayoand and Dan Mulder who despite their situation faced down the challenges and performed well.

The Boys teams made it to a respective semi-final match against Holy Trinity Academy and Olds.  Although the team was not successful in the games they gained a lot of experience by forcing the opponents to go to three-set matches in both games, making for a very exciting semi-final match-up.

Holy Trinity won the boys tournament this year and was given the first Spartan Helmet trophy of the year.

The Girls Volleyball team of 12 led by team captain Elle Sauve, played some great games and could have easily gone either way.  The Girls Volleyball Coach Sharline Visser, talked about the close matches, "Throughout the tournament, we made consistent improvements individually and as a team. We won our only game against Acme to put us in the consolation final against Canmore, but we couldn’t pull out a win in that game."

The Chestermere Lakers played Brooks Lions for the finals, with the Lakers coming out on top after three sets, and taking home the Spartan helmet.
