Strathmore High School participates in a lot of sports, but for some reason, wrestling was not one of them, until this year.  Eric Claros started the program at the school, and has seen a huge amount of success since they began wrestling.  Claros talks about their success, "Two tournaments we got 10 medals, Yeah it is going pretty good. We went to the Rundle College Junior High called the Cobra Classic Rookie and open and yeah we did pretty well."

Well is a bit of an understatement, team captain Gabe Durocher won gold and co-captain Seth Buss won gold and bronze. Marcus Molina took gold and Brandon Buye won bronze.  Malikia Henry and Susan Anger both won silver in their matches.  For a brand new program, the success is phenomenal, but it was not by accident Claros says, "It is pretty much just learning the basics right, Takes downs, single-leg, double legs, just the basics right, and then we learn about defensive maneuvers, and offensive maneuvers, and keep it as fun as I can. We focus on mind body and soul, so when these kids are on the mat they are pretty much focused and ready and not nervous and ready to go and ready to win medals."

Team captain Gabe Durocher and co-captain Seth Buss both have experience in the sport through their personal activities, but the remainder of the wrestlers have started fresh and have made incredible gains in the last few months.  Their next big challenge will be the Rural Wrestling Championships in Lethbridge  February 28 to the 29 starting at 12 p.m.
