While sports of all kind are on hold right now, the Strathmore Silver Sharks Swim Club are taking this time to look back at the beginning of their season and celebrate the success they had. Just before their season was cut short, the Silver Sharks were wrapping up their 'Short Course' season, which refers to competitions that take place in a 25m pool, and about to head into their Short Course Provincial competitions. The second half of the season transitions into ‘Long Course’ season where competitions take place in a 50m pool.

In the past few weeks, the coaching staff have been trying to find ways to maintain connection and celebrate their season so far when they realized the accomplishments of their athletes. A lot of their swimmers wrapped up their 'Short Course' season in the top 50 in the whole province in their age group. After compiling all of the results they learned that 31 of their athletes are in the top 50 in the province in at least one event and one athlete, Megan Mertz, who is top 50 in Canada.

Around this time in the season the team normally gathers on the pool deck to hand out certificates celebrating all of the athletes who made it into the top 50. Since the club is unable to do that this year they are instead sending the list out through email and sending the certificate in the mail to make sure their athletes still get the recognition they deserve.

While compiling the list the Silver Sharks staff was reminded of how many goals are on pause right now, but also how much we have accomplished already, and it is only April. They want to congratulate every athlete who is on the list, as well as all other athletes who continue to challenge themselves in and out of the water throughout the season. The Silver Sharks club added wants to spread inspiration to not only their athletes but to everyone who needs it.

The Club said, “Being an athlete requires determination, dedication and a constant re-evaluation. Now is the time to use these results as fuel to get motivated for as soon as we can get back in the water. Congratulations for all of our athletes, these are tough times globally but I am very thankful we have our team to keep us motivated for what's next however that looks.”
