The Spartans, the Strathmore High School football team, played in a provincial qualifier game over the weekend in Okotoks, however the team lost, eliminating them for the year.

Travis Gorski, coach for the Spartans, talked about the season and how it is shaping up for next year.

When asked how the season went, Gorski stated that through the season there has been ups and downs. They had a mid season momentum when they had a three game winning streak. Even though the team had key injuries to key players, the team still battled through.

Gorski said the team has improved. He mentioned that they have taken leaps and bounds. They introduced rugby style football tackling, and throughout the season they have seen the benefits of safe tackling. There has been a lot of high level football play, and injuries have dropped down. They have really improved on their ability to mentally focus and execute complicated game plans. By the end of the season the boys have really understood the game of football, said Gorski.

When asked about how successful this season has been, Gorski said the season has had an overall success. They have a 3 and 5 record, even though they played top quality teams. It has been a real positive season, and he is looking forward to next year with a new batch of Grade 9s and to develop the Grade 10s and Grade 11s.

With a successful season for the Spartans, everything points to a great year of football in next years season at Strathmore High School.
