Last Saturday the Strathmore High Spartans Sr. girl's basketball team won the South-Central Zone championship against the Cochrane Cobras with a score of 69-33.

Head Coach Dion Galandy says their team is the number one seed in the province and if the girls play like they did at that last game, then they will have no problem coming out on top at provincials.

“I never realized that they had another gear. They have played with intensity all year long, they realized that this was for the championship and then they hit another gear and it was pretty amazing.”

Galandy says of course there are things they can work on as a team but there really is a difference with this group of girls and if they play like that and give the effort like they did success will happen.

“We can run our defense a little bit better, get a few more deflections, a couple more rebounds but it is a very good group of girls that just work together as a team and there is really just a difference with these girls.”

The Strathmore Spartans Sr. girl's basketball team will be heading to Wetaskiwin tomorrow for provincials and will have their first game on Thursday. Hopes are high, as the team enters as the top seed and with plenty of momentum.
