Be a part of Strathmore’s community and help plant fruit bearing trees and bushes at the Birth Forest near Centennial Boulevard and Thomas Drive this Saturday.

On June 1, members of Strathmore’s Communities in Bloom are inviting the community to dig in the dirt and help plant fruit-bearing trees and bushes in the Birth Forest.

“Every year Communities in Bloom plants about 45 trees in a plot provided by the Town of Strathmore, and these trees are in dedication of the children being born in Strathmore, that’s why we call it a Birth Forest,” explained Robert Breitwieser, a representative of Strathmore Communities in Bloom.

The forest helps honour the children born in the community of Strathmore, as there are no children born at the hospital in town.

He noted that in the last two years the group has been planting edible fruit trees and brushes and this year they will be planting fruit-bearing trees and bushes as well as berry bushes and grapes.

The Birth Forest planting will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m.

“You are welcome to come dig a hole, plant a tree, and enjoy the fellowship and you can be involved in helping to promote trees and fruit bearing bushes in the Town of Strathmore,” he said.

“There’s no cost for the registration and you will get a certificate indicating you will have a tree planted in honour of your child,” said Breitwieser.

Individuals can register for the Birth Forest by picking up forms at Chinook Financial, The Town of Strathmore, or the Health Unit.
