Tax time is right around the corner. Strathmore FCSS (Family and Community Support Services) are offering a useful tool to try to make tax season just a little bit easier.

FCSS is offering general tax preparation services for low income individuals who qualify.

According to Strathmore FCSS programmer Tammi Sieben, “It’s called the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. They can come to FCSS. They bring all their forms with them, and we will do their income taxes for free.”

“There are income requirements,” she said. The requirements are based on singles, couples and couples with children and with additional dependents.

“There are income limits for all those different groupings,” she explained.

Sieben said, individuals don’t have to schedule appointments, they just come in and drop off their information.

“We do the taxes and then we call them back once we’re done to come back and check them over,” she said. The forms are signed off by the individual before staff send the income tax information off for the individuals.

“If they want to know what the requirements are, they can definitely give us a call,” she said.

There are additional requirements and details about the types of income tax documents that can be completed by FCSS.

“We won’t do income tax for people who are self-employed, for people who have employment expenses, for business or rental income tax expenses, capital gains or losses, filing for bankruptcy, or filing for a deceased person.

A detailed list of qualifications can be found by visiting the Strathmore FCSS office at 116-3rd Ave.
