The Strathmore High School (SHS) Girls, Boys, and Mixed teams participated in a round robin tournament at Cochrane during the weekend. In the end the Ladies and Mixed teams both earned silver.

Michelle Ledene, coach for the teams and teacher for SHS talked about how the tournament went. She said it went really well. She said, “all of our teams exceeded our expectations, they did a really great job.” She mentioned it was a great weekend in Cochrane and that she is “so proud of all of our curlers.”

Ledene said that the boys team had new curlers and had a first time skip. Although the boys did not advance from the pool play, Ledene said the team “showed some great improvement and really had fun, which obviously is the most important part about it.”

Ledene talked about the girls and mixed teams. She said, “they both won silver medals, the girls were undefeated until the gold medal game, then they lost a close one to the eventual zone champions.” Ledene said “the mixed they won their pool, and again they lost another close one in the gold medal round.”

Even though both the girls and mixed teams did not win gold, they still earned themselves a wildcard spot in provincials. Ledene said the teams are so stoked and excited they get the opportunity to go to provincials. She said the team was “disappointed to lose, but when they found out they could still be going anyways they were thrilled.”

Provincials will be coming up from March 6 to 9.
