Monday will be a day of mourning for Albertans to honor Queen Elizabeth II's funeral, and the Strathmore Legion will be laying a wreath at 11:00 am for her.

President of the Strathmore Legion Bruce Westgard said the Legion will be closed, but he wanted to do something to honor the Queen on Monday.

"I'm going to come out and lay a wreath at the cenotaph. And it's just to lay the wreath for the Queen. And that's it, the branch is not going to be open or anything," he said.

Westgard explained he would've liked to do something more, but many of the Legion's members are currently away, which made it difficult to organize a big event. However, he's happy he can do something to respect the Queen's passing, even if it's a small event like laying a wreath.

Anybody that would like to join the event is welcome to do so, and at sundown, the flag will be raised, as it is currently at half mast.
