Today (March 23) the Town of Strathmore has made the decision to restrict the use of playground equipment, in order to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

According to the town, this difficult decision was made to address the higher risk in high-touch areas.

Strathmore’s parks and pathways are still open. Today’s measure will help all of our community to maintain the recommended two-metre physical distance.

Strathmore’s Mayor Pat Fule explained, “The Town is working to protect our residents during the COVID-19 emergency. We’ve been proactive with facility closures and restrictions on public gatherings. Today we’ve made the necessary decision to restrict playground equipment usage within Strathmore’s boundaries. We ask that children stay off all playground equipment in our parks to protect our community.”

Today the town also updated the community on a number of new measures in response to the virus.

The town renewed its State of Local Emergency this morning. This action is required by provincial law every seven days.

The town has also created an interactive map that will track the COVID-19 impact on services in the community. The map can be found here:

In addition, Mayor Fule continues to host Facebook Live sessions where the public may ask questions. The next session will be held on Friday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
