The Strathmore Aquatic Centre is celebrating 20 years of swimming success in the community.

The Aquatic Centre owes its success to its manager Natasha Barron, who has managed it for its full twenty-year run. Baron said hitting this milestone is a special moment for her.

"Over these years we’ve worked together to provide recreation, fitness programs, and water safety in our community. I’ll be celebrating alongside past and present staff and patrons, whose vibrancy and commitment to aquatics make the Strathmore Aquatic Centre so much more than a pool."

As Baron says the Aquatic Centre is really a hub for foundational learning, career development, personal growth, and inclusive fitness opportunities. Over the past two decades they have proudly taught more than 67 000 children how to swim, ensuring their safety in and around water. It has also welcomed 745,000 admissions, providing a safe and enjoyable space for individuals and families to engage in aquatic activities.

The facility has hosted numerous Swim-A-Thons, kayak courses, cardboard boat races, aquacise classes, scuba club activities, and triathlons, which provide new skills, forge lasting friendships, and embraces the spirit of healthy competition.

In 2015 the Aquatic Centre hosted the prestigious 55+ Games. This has athletes from all across the region come out and compete. The Strathmore Aquatic Centre is also the home to The Strathmore Silver Sharks Swim Club. The club has had numerous accomplished athletes who have excelled at local, provincial, and national levels come from the club.

Baron added that a community is improved by a pool one hundred percent and that it provides a safe space for people of all ages to exercise and care for their health.

"It’s an after-school and summer hotspot for local kids, keeping them active in a safe environment. We provide job opportunities for local youth and add economic development value to the Town."

As the Strathmore Aquatic Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary, it remains commited to providing a safe, inclusive, and vibrant environment for individuals of all ages to embrace aquatic activities, foster wellness, and create lifelong memories.

The Strathmore Aquatic Centre will host a community celebration on June 4 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The celebration includes free lane and public swims, treats, games, and prizes.
