On November 17 at around 11:00 PM, an RCMP news release said members of the Strathmore General Investigation Section (GIS) observed suspicious vehicles in the Town Hall parking lot. Since the RCMP had previous complaints about loitering and liquor consumption, the GIS members checked both drivers for sobriety and legal documents.

The RCMP report stated when they initially contacted the men there was a cannabis smell, leading to further investigation and a search of both vehicles. During the search, they found what they believe to be cocaine in several small packages, as well as cash and cell phones.

47 year old Strathmore resident Jason Piper and 48 year old Lethbridge resident Don Gilbertson have been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Cannabis within Reach of the Driver. Piper received an additional charge of Possession of Items used for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance. The RCMP release added both men were taken to the Strathmore detachment, and they were later released with restrictive conditions and a future court date.
