Yesterday at 10:21 AM the Strathmore RCMP detachment got a call in regard to Wheatland Elementary being in a lockdown as a result of a medical issue that was being experienced at the school.

Because the situation involved a youth, Strathmore RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz explained they cannot get into the specifics of the incident but provided what they could. Wielgosz said the RCMP followed the appropriate procedures based on what they had observed.

"We conducted a search of the school and were able to find the youth and safely apprehend the person, notify their parents, and transport them to medical care to receive treatment."

Wielgosz said the school did everything that they were supposed to do and that the RCMP was called there to make sure that everyone was safe in response to any type of lockdown procedure. "Again, it was an emergency medical situation in which they were able to transport the youth to the appropriate care."
