In an effort to curb license plate theft and increase the detectability of stolen vehicles, Strathmore RCMP has initiated the Security Screw Program.

Auto theft is a significant problem in Alberta which is typically tied to the commission of other offences. License plates from similar make and model of vehicles are stolen by auto thieves in order to avoid detection by law enforcement. Not only does this pose a risk to the public and police, but it comes at a cost to unsuspecting vehicle owners.

In response, Strathmore RCMP has initiated this crime prevention program to protect residents, prevent license plate theft, and help increase the detectability of auto thieves in stolen vehicles.

“License plate theft has been an ongoing problem in Strathmore. In response this program was created as part of our overall crime reduction strategy to protect our residents from becoming victims of crime,” said Strathmore RCMP Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz

With assistance from local businesses, Strathmore RCMP has made security screw fasteners available to residents free of charge. Simply attend the Strathmore RCMP detachment, or a participating location in Strathmore to have a security screw fastener installed, or removed when no longer needed.
