The Strathmore RCMP presented their quarterly report during March 16 town council meeting. Strathmore RCMP began their presentation by touching on the implementation of new traffic programs.

“In quarter 3, we had 10 documented check stops,” explained Strathmore RCMP Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz. “Overall, 4 violations were issued for immediate roadside sanction suspensions, as well as 2 impaired suspensions and as far as total vehicles checked, we estimate we checked around 1,365 vehicles through quarter 3 and those 10 check stops.”

The Strathmore RCMP have also been making an effort to attend more community events by visiting schools, and attending events on Siksika Nation.   Wielgosz attributed the increase in prescience to the Watch Clerk program.

In the report provided to the council, it states, watch clerks are support staff employees dedicated to supporting front-line policing activities.

“With a fully staffed watch clerk pool we potentially could be saving around 2,200 – 3,400 hours each year. Those are extra hours that members can spend out on the road,” explained Wielgosz.

After the RCMP report, Councillor Brent Wiley thanked Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz for the RCMP’s work reducing incidents in and around the Strathmore area.

“In our 2021 Community Satisfaction Survey, the results said 95 per cent of people in Strathmore are either satisfied or very satisfied with the Strathmore RCMP. When asked why they were satisfied one of the most common responses was community safety, so thank you for the work your detachment’s doing.”
