A winter storm rolled into Strathmore last night making highway travel treacherous. Today we can expect more light snow in the Strathmore region.

Roads are slick in some areas in Strathmore especially around intersections, with some areas seeing melting starting and the slush causing some grief around town.

According to 511 Alberta, the Trans-Canada Highway between Strathmore and Calgary is covered in snow with icy sections.

For people thinking of driving into the city there’s a traffic advisory on the ramp from HWY-2 (Deerfoot) Northbound to Memorial Dr NE. The ramp is closed due to stuck vehicles.

Motorists traveling on Highway 1 should expect wind gusts that will reach between 30 and 50 km per hour and a high of 6 C this afternoon.

Tonight expect a few clouds with a small chance of snow overnight and a low of –6 C.

Looking ahead to the weekend it will begin to feel like spring again with double digit temperatures in the forecast.

The Town of Strathmore advised this morning that, "Yesterday’s spring storm has shifted priorities for the Operations Team. Street sweeping was scheduled to begin in Downtown areas today, however it will now be delayed until the snow has fully melted."

"Crews are in the process of clearing snow from priority roads and pathways. Please use caution this morning as the snow fall was quite wet and has frozen overnight, causing slippery conditions in some areas. Operations will be working throughout the day to improve these conditions."
