Strathmore was spared the brunt of the snowfall that swept across southern Alberta on Tuesday night.

In Calgary, record snowfall reports ranged from 20 to 40 cm of snow for this time of year.

According to Southern Alberta RCMP, on Tuesday evening, an advisory was issued that travel was not recommended on all southern Alberta highways. RCMP responded to approximately 83 collisions in southern Alberta between 10:30 a.m. on October 2 and 10:30 a.m. on October 3.

While partially snow-covered, the roads around Strathmore were not terrible according to some motorists.

Yep not bad, snow covered icy near Chestermere and snowing in the city, however, roads are just wet,” said one motorist.

In Strathmore, snowplows are out clearing streets. The community saw approximately 10 cm of snow. Crews were on standby on Monday night and began clearing at 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Priority 1 roads are cleared within 24 hours after the snow stops, priority 2 level roads are cleared within 48 hours. Crews will be out sanding as needed. Strathmore crews were ahead of the snowfall and were able to begin clearing non-priority routes to assist residents.

RCMP remind motorists to check the weather and traffic conditions on Alberta 511 before traveling.

In terms of the weekly forecast, it’s -4 C in Strathmore right now, but with the wind chill factored in it feels like -8 C.

This afternoon some of the snow will be melting as it warms up to about 3 C.

Tonight it will be cloudy with a low of – 6 C.

Thursday will be cloudy with a chance of rain or snow and a high of 3 degrees and Friday, it'll be sunny with a high of 8 C.
