The Town of Strathmore and Wheatland County will be sending a joint letter to Minister Ric McIver which will outline their next steps regarding being removed from the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board(CMRB).

The purpose of the letter will be to thank the Minister and inform him of the town and county’s next steps.

The Town of Strathmore and Wheatland County were removed from the CMRB on March 28, 2022. The Town and County will need to develop an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) and Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF).

CAO Kevin Scoble explained to council, “With the minister's decision to remove us from the CMRB at the end of March the mayor and I did meet with the Reeve and the CAO from Wheatland to discuss what next steps look like.”

According to the Town of Strathmore, municipalities that share a boundary are required to develop ICFs and IDPs unless they are members of the same growth management board. The Town and County were both members of the CMRB and, therefore, there was no requirement to complete an ICF and IDP by the April 21, 2021 deadline. Municipal Affairs is currently reviewing the next steps for the Town and County and will advise when the new ICF and IDP deadline will be.

The letter proposes that the town develop their IDP and ICF in 2023. This wil give the town time to budget funds for consultants in order to complete the plans.
