The Junior B team at the Strathmore Venom has been making waves this season. Their hard work has culminated in a playoff game against the Mountain View Stingers at the Strathmore Family Center Arena this Friday at 8 pm with game two on Saturday at 2 pm. If needed, game three will be on Sunday at 1 pm. The winners of the playoffs will be heading to Sylvan Lake on the 5th of August.

The team and coaches at the Venom have been working hard to get their team into top shape and ready for playoffs after two years on the sidelines due to Covid-19 restrictions and regulations.

Manager Clint Sims speaks on how hard the Junior B1 team has been working to get ready for the first season back.

“They've been working really hard, you know, shout out to the coaches who do an awesome job with these kids they've been working really hard. Most of them haven't played for two years so to get back out on the floor and just pick up where they left off is pretty amazing.”

Sims has been with the Venom and the juniors for over eight years and illustrates the best part of being involved with the various teams and games over the years.

“I think that camaraderie you see with the team. You see the players working so well together and supporting each other, I think that's one of the best parts. The other part is the interaction with the other parents. We have a really good parent group, we always have with Venom and it just makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable for everybody.”

With so much anticipation towards playoffs and end-of-the-season games, Sims can’t help but look to the future at the Venom and for the Junior team.

“I'm sure we're going to have a season wrap-up party.  A lot of kids just graduated this year so, we'll definitely have a season wrap-up. People are already talking about next year, the junior program in Strathmore has taken off this year like it hasn't ever before, the energy level is really high and next year is going to be even better.”

Sims also acknowledged the role of coaches and parents and wanted to thank them as the junior team is moving to playoffs this season.

“Big shout out to the families and the fans and everything that have been coming out. We do charge a $5 entry fee at the gate and that helps us to pay for uniforms and it helps keeps the annual fees lower. We also did a big fundraiser at the Firehouse in Langdon and raised a lot of money to help our team as well. Big shout out to everybody that helped with that.”
