The Strathmore Venom Lacrosse Club was shut down before they even got started this season amidst concerns over COVID-19.

April 20th was supposed the start of a new season for 200 athletes in Strathmore and unfortunately, that will not be happening.  Jon Peters the President of The Strathmore Venom Lacrosse Club explained, "We have been working with the Calgary District Lacrosse Association (CDLA) and Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA) for the last month, about a week and a half ago the ALA decided that things are just too up in the air so they decided that there could be lacrosse this year, but not in the way it was going to be so they canceled the entire season for now."

Peters went on to say that if the opportunity did come up to do a potentially modified season later on in the year that would be something that the ALA would look at, but the safety of the players and coaches and all involved is, of course, the main priority of the league.

The Strathmore Venom were planning to host a tournament in Strathmore from June 5-7 this year with 32 teams registered to attend. With the announcement of the cancellation of the season that does, in turn, mean that this year the Venom will not be hosting clubs in Strathmore.

Peters and his family are a big lacrosse family, "My whole family we are all lacrosse people. We live and we breathe lacrosse we can't wait for it to get to that season and we are certainly missing it." At this point in the season, they would have multiple practices under their belts and be getting ready for games and weekend tournaments to get going for a busy season.

There are a lot of online tools that players can still use to train Peters notes that the Calgary Roughnecks with the cancelation of their season have been posting drills that players can do at home to keep their skills sharp.  The ALA has been posting drills as well, and Peters will be sending links to his players so they can access all of these resources and continue to work on their techniques outside of the arena.

The Strathmore Venom Lacrosse Club is feeling the disappointment that many different organizations in Strathmore have felt this year already, but like most others, they are looking forward to next year when they can all come together again and get out and play.
