The U15 Strathmore Venom Lacrosse Club played in the Canada Day Tournament in Calgary this past weekend and took home some special hardware.

They defeated the Denver Elite, winning gold by a final score of 7-4.

On Thursday they will play for gold again in the city championship in Calgary at the Soccer Centre at 6 p.m.

Kurtis Bressler, a parent with the team says clubs from across North America took part in the Canada Day Tournament.

"There's teams from Denver, Colorado and California in this tournament. As well as all over Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan."

According to Bressler, the Canada Day Tournament is the biggest in the province for youth lacrosse.

"Winning gold is super exciting for these boys. They played their heart out. They played Denver on a Sunday and had lost, and they came back to play them in the final on Monday and came back to win the gold championship for that," explains Bressler.

If the Venom win the city championship on Thursday, they go on to play in provincials in Sylvan Lake.
