The Strathmore Wheatland Kings will be well represented at this weekends Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) All Star and Prospects games. This is the first year the HJHL has done a prospects game. Both Garret Vander Ploeg, and Kody Hammond from the Wheatland Kings will play for the South Division All Stars and Chase Clayton, Kyle Malmberg, and Cade Jackson will represent the Kings as they play in the South Division Prospects lineup.

Both the All Star and Top Prospects games will be taking place in Medicine Hat on January 5 at the recently renovated Kinplex. The Top Prospects game will go on first at 1 p.m. and the All Star game will follow at 4 p.m. The last two All Star games from previous years went to a shootout so fans are expecting a good game this year as well. The logo for the jerseys was made locally this year, right in Medicine Hat by the same place that made the Medicine Hat Cubs logo.

The fans are obviously looking forward to the All Star and Top Prospects games but the players can also look forward to the games. Not just because it’ll be a fun time but also because scouts for other leagues are expected to be at the games. Scouts from the British Columbia Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League and Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League have been invited to watch some of the HJHL’s top players play in this weekends games.
