The Strathmore Wheatland Kings Junior B hockey club is getting ready for hockey season in Strathmore. This spring and summer the organization will be holding spring skates and their annual hockey camp, all in an effort to build a new team after the very successful 2021 season.

General Manager of the Strathmore Wheatland Kings Lee Smith spoke about the excitement that’s building.

“Last year was a very good season. We're completely excited, we've got some new guys that we're working on coming in. I think they're going to really shore up some of the deficiencies that we had. We're really pleased.”

“We will be having summer skates here starting in July and then our main camp is in the end of August,” said Smith. He explained that it’s a chance for the returning players and team prospects to get back into the swing of skating.

The Kings main camp will take place from August 27th to 29th.

Last season the team lost four players who aged out from the team, including one of their goaltenders, “That'll be a tough one to fill, but we're working on some young guys to come in and replace him,” Smith said, the organization will also be looking to fill one coaching position.

The Strathmore Wheatland Kings roster is typically made up of local players from the Strathmore and Wheatland County region.

“We always have a couple from the city, but we try to stay local so that it's a local product and for local kids.”
