Most people are thankful that they have never had the misfortune to be sick, and to need to visit the Alberta Children’s Hospital. But for a group of young students at Crowther Memorial Junior High School in Strathmore, they’ve had to or know friends and family who have needed the hospital’s care.

That’s why leadership students Addison Innes, Emma Screpnek, Audrey Butler, and Emma Breaker have come together to create a fundraiser for the hospital, as a way to say thank you and give back to the organization.

Screpnek says, “There are a few girls in our group that have been to the children’s hospital and we know lots of people that have been to the children hospital, so we thought that maybe fundraising would help repay what they did for us.”

Screpnek explained, “So far we volunteered for our schools canteen. We sold cookies in December and we also sold popcorn during the month of January and February.”

The teens sold cookies over their 10-minute breaks in the morning and during the lunch hour as well.

Their annual goal is to raise $5,000, and so far they’ve made it to $1,500.

In addition to selling popcorn and cookies, they have volunteered to sell pizza over lunch breaks on Fridays.
