Strathmore’s going to be holding another performing arts festival this March 25th to April 2nd with a final concert on April 6th, all live and in person. This is the third year the festival has run but only the second time they’ve had the chance to be in person because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Performing arts festival president and local music instructor Carolyn Steeves explains why in-person concerts are so important.

“When they're recording, they can record something until it's perfect and that in its own way is good. But when it's a live performance, it's live you're in the moment the audience is there with you, your family is there with you, your friends are there and there's palatable excitement. There's nerves, of course, but, it's just different. It's just a whole different vibe. The arts are performing arts, so unless you're performing for someone and there is that live audience that feedback that feeling of actually performing for someone there's just something missing.”

This year promises to be bigger than ever with many scholarships up for grabs.

“We're going to be handing out almost $6000 in 73 scholarships. A number of students that are recommended by the adjudicators will be going on to the Provincial music festival. So, a lot of students are vying for not only wonderful performances and adjudications, but possibly winning a scholarship, a provincial nomination, or a chance to play in the final concert of the performing arts festival.

“We have a lot of sponsorship this year, we've raised almost $20,000 in sponsorship, there's been a lot of support from the town in sponsorship of funds for being able to run the festival and for scholarships for our participants. Steeves explained
