With the current COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty that breeds anxiety for some residents about job security, and the ability to pay for housing and childcare, Wheatland County Counselling is undertaking a new subsidized counseling pilot program.

Wheatland County Counselling, a private business is working with Strathmore Family and Community Support Services in order to provide the new six-month pilot program.

Rachel Dundas, a registered Psychologist, and certified Play Therapist says, “The funding for this program is provided by the Town of Strathmore FCSS. It is a pilot project for six months to assess the community need for subsidized counseling.”

“Our experience in the other communities where we provide service is that subsidized counselling is a high priority for residents, and access to services,” she said.

She revealed that Wheatland County Counselling has been working with the town of Strathmore for approximately two years to try and create the pilot project, that is similar to programming that they run in the Drumheller region.

The program will run from March until September.

Individuals can self-refer to the program, but referrals can also be made through family doctors.

To take part individuals can visit their website at https://www.wheatlandcountycounselling.com, or contact the administrative team at 403-901-3761.

Staff members also provide eligibility screening for the program.
