The Strathmore Aquatic Centre is offering an earlier than usual early registration window to allow locals to secure lesson spots.

A Town press release explains that swimming lessons usually fill pretty fast, and recent lifeguard shortages due to a lack of training available during the pandemic made it even more difficult to secure a spot. Thus, the Town hopes to give Strathmore and area a chance to secure spots first before opening general registration.

“In past sessions, we’ve had lesson registrations from residents of Chestermere, Calgary, and Rockyview County. While we’re pleased to offer water safety instruction to as many children as possible, we want to make sure we’re serving those that live in our community first,” the Town of Strathmore's Manager of Recreation and Culture Marcie Brinton said.

The early registration window is expected to open on October 2 at 9:00 a.m., with the general registration starting on October 5. In the meantime, the pool remains closed due to annual maintenance but is expected to open towards the end of September or early October.

"We’ve heard the frustrations from residents who’ve had difficulties securing a place in the correct swimming lesson level for their child," Brinton added.

The press release added, "Residents of Strathmore and Wheatland County should create an account at Strathmore.perfectmind.com and ensure that they enter the correct land address and postal code for their residence."
