The setup for the regular council meeting of Wheatland County council has been altered due to COVID-19. The March 24 meeting did occur but the entire meeting was in a teleconference format, with members of the county council and the majority of staff calling in.

Mackenzie Soltys, communications specialist for Wheatland County explained that in order to meet requirements of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), the council chambers were open.

People unable to call into the conference were able to sit in the gallery, which is normal for public meetings.

Brian Henderson, the county’s chief administrative officer, was present in the council chambers.

In terms of the municipal facility, the office doors were open for the council meeting only.

Many of Wheatland County’s staff continue to work, with some working remotely during the crisis, as a preventative measure. In-person administrative services are limited.

Residents are asked to call, or email in order to set up a virtual meeting. They can do so by visiting

People who feel sick, or are required to self-isolate are asked not to visit the county office.

As usual, Wheatland County council meetings are recorded and uploaded to YouTube for the public to view.
