Strathmore, California has moved to your doorstep. There’s a Tesla charging station in town, and that puts Strathmore on the map. It brings Tesla owners who want to drive across Alberta here, to get a charge.

So I have to admit, I love hearing about all the news about Elon Musk and Tesla Inc. I love the hyperloop, self-driving cars, and the huge flame throwers he shows off.

I love cars. In my retirement, I want to either buy a Lamborghini, or a Tesla. So when I saw this I was so excited.

But I’ve really have never caught on to the idea of buying a Tesla vehicle. I love hybrids and electric cars, but a Tesla is kind of like buying a Lamborghini for electric cars. I love the idea of having one, who doesn’t like pretty things and a car that can drive itself. But I’m a penny pincher, and it’s like buying a small house or condo.

I think they say this year may be the year that they put out an affordable Tesla model.

I better start saving some more then.

Today I saw a Tesla charging station. In Strathmore.

I was shocked. I felt like jumping for joy. I mean there are other electric car charging stations. But this car is expensive. It can drive itself with the Autopilot feature.

If you think about how much a Tesla costs, about $74,000 for the 2018 base model S. That’s the cheapest one you can get. Then again, you’d never have to buy gas again.

Anyhow, so that got me thinking. Strathmore is on a highway corridor, so there must be other charging stations nearby? Imagine my surprise after checking out their website. There are Tesla supercharging stations everywhere in Alberta.

It looks like they are opening a Tesla Supercharger in Bassano and one in Calgary. There’s one in Canmore, Edmonton, and one in Medicine Hat is coming soon. One is already at Cross Iron Mills.

Outside of the three stores in BC, there is only one Tesla store in Alberta, and it’s in Calgary. Those are the only stores in all of Western Canada.

It might not seem like a big deal to some people, but you have to think about it. It’s kind of like an electric vehicle highway.

To me it looks like Tesla is building a network of stations across the country. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be able to drive across Canada all on electricity.

Progress.
