It is that time of year and Canadian Tire is helping out the Christmas Hamper Society by helping to gather donations.

Starting today (Monday, November 15), cashiers at Canadian Tire in Strathmore will be accepting customers donations from those who are able for the Christmas Hamper Society at the time of their purchase.

“It helps the hamper be able to buy some essentials for our families as well as gift cards,” explained Sean Duthie, media spokesperson for the Christmas Hamper Society.

He explained that they love physical donations from the community but cash helps fill in gaps.

“We look for certain items and if we don't have them then that's where the cash donations come in handy, we can go get those certain items that are on the list.”

In addition to donations at the till at Canadian Tire, 104.5 More Country will be accepting physical donations at the store on November 26 and 27 for this year's toy and food drive, after a successful event in 2020 the team is hoping to top last year's total! The Christmas Hamper Society will also be hosting more drop-off locations on December 4.

“We're going to have bins set up through some of the businesses in rural areas and in town in November. As well, we're going to run an event on December 4th with some of the local sports teams in town. We will be out at different locations accepting donations all day long.”

Strathmore Canadian Tire owner, Michael Tourond is excited to get this campaign going again after last year’s amazing success.

“I'm definitely excited that we did this last year. We took advantage of the amazing generosity of all our customers that live here in Strathmore and were able to support one of our favourite causes, the Christmas Hamper Society. We really want to beat what we did last year.”

Tourond explained that last year, almost every customer that went through their tills in November donated at least $2.00 to the Hamper Society.

“We were able to raise over $5,000 last year for the Christmas Hamper Society. I know it goes to a very good cause, supports our community, and is one of the best ways I know how to support people in need. We thank everyone for their support this year and last year.”

When you visit Canadian Tire this year, you can donate to the Christmas Hamper Society at the till or visit one of the many drop-off locations!
