Canadian Folk music artists the Travelling Mabels will be performing in Strathmore on September 8 at the Strathmore Travelodge. The concert and supper night is hosted by the Strathmore Musical Arts Society and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.

The band consists of Eva Levesque, Lana Floen, Suzanne Levesque and Keith Floen. The Travelling Mabels were voted ACMA 2011 Group of the Year. Their musical influences range from Dolly Parton to Bob Dylan and The Eagles.

“There will be a lot of stories, a lot of story-telling, a lot of joke telling and three part harmonies,” said Keith Floen.

“The Mabels show is very much a kitchen party. It feels very much at home, with everyone just telling little stories, or little jokes and lots of three-part harmony. It’s kind of country-folk-roots sort of a sound,” he said.

Audiences will hear acoustic guitar, accordion, and vocals from a trio.

“Everyone is really comfortable and it’s intimate. It feels like we are sitting in your living room. It doesn’t really matter how big the stage or the show is, it’s an intimate one-on-one sort of a feel to it,” he said. Keep an eye out for the Travelling Mabels at the Longstock Music Festival on August 19, and in November at the St. Andrews Church in Cochrane.

There is a new album in the works, Floen says, but it won’t be released until 2019.

“There’s lots of exciting new things, but we will be talking about those as we get closer to launching a new album,” he said.

For the Travelling Mabels show in Strathmore on September 8, the doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 and the performance at 8 p.m.
