The tight nit community of Strathmore’s Trinity Christian Academy came together on Friday to cheer on their local girls and boys basketball teams with a pep rally.

The entire school came together and celebrated with a teachers versus students basketball ball game, where it was also announced that the school had raised $1250 that will go towards Jump Rope for Heart.

We spoke with TCA Tigers girls basketball coach Kristen Odegard who said the girls played awesome basketball this season.

“They worked so hard. They came to every practice, they were so driven and wanted to achieve that banner.,” she said. The members of the team posed with their banner and each team member signed it during the pep rally.

“We won all three of our tournaments we were in. We won bronze at zones and the girls gave it their all they worked so hard and I'm so proud of them,” said their coach. Members of the TCA Tigers team are from Grade 7 to 9.

On the boys side we spoke with TCA Principal Stephan Dykema.

“Our boys played amazing, they played it incredibly hard in the semifinals and especially in the bronze game. In zones every team is good and our boys were ready for the challenge,” he said.

He explained that the team came home with bronze at the South Central Zones.

In addition, the school raised $1250 for Jump Rope for Heart (The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada).

Dykema said he was incredibly proud of the school for that as well.

The teachers did eventually win the basketball game with a final score of 23 to 20. And at the end, a few lucky students had the chance to throw a pie at the school’s principal to the cheers of students and staff, students who held up banners and screamed in joy.
