Strathmore's very own B Ranch Smokehouse is making sure that everyone will have a great Christmas dinner this year. For every smoked turkey that was bought from them, they donated a whole chicken to the Wheatland County Food Bank.

In total, 13 fresh chickens were donated and the Executive Director of the food bank, Lynette Aschenbrenner, said that they will be put to good use.

“We do put fresh meat in every hamper, so when meat is donated to us it just allows us more room in our budget to buy other things that are needed.”

Aschenbrenner said that they are having an amazing Christmas season, and are so grateful for all the generosity from the community. She hopes to see this trend continue.

“Food insecurity is with us every month of the year. The food bank operates at 12 months of the year. So in January, obviously due to all the generosity at Christmas, our shelves are very full. But if people can just remember that we're still helping the needy throughout the whole year and that we will need donations to get us throughout February, March and so on.”

Recently, the food bank has moved into a new building, and it has made life so much easier for the organization.

“We have so much room. We don’t have to worry about physical distancing anymore, and no one bumping into each other. And best of all, our clients can enter a building again, we have a nice front area to welcome them in now.”
