Wheatland County’s new municipal council held their first official meeting this week.
Amber Link was re-elected during the meeting as the Reeve of Wheatland County, Councillor Scott Klassen will serve as Deputy Reeve. The new council consists of Division 1 Shannon Laprise, Division 2 Amber Link, Division 3 Donna Biggar, Division 4 Tom Ikert, Division 5 Scott Klassen, Division 6 Glenn Koester, and Division 7 Rick Laursen.
The first order of business was the voting procedure, nominations and election of Reeve and Deputy Reeve for the county followed by a review of the draft calendar of meeting days and times, and proposed dates for the Wheatland County annual general meeting. The AGM is a meeting between councillors and members of the public held within the community that creates a general update for ratepayers and gives them a chance to ask questions. It has not been confirmed, but it’s likely the AGM will likely be held in 2022 within Division 6.
Other items of discussion during the meeting were appointments to committees and appointments of signing authorities, as well as a review of correspondence on upcoming conferences and conventions.
The county has chosen to appoint MNP LLP as the Financial Statement Auditor for the 2021 calendar year. The county’s economic development board was also dissolved at the meeting.
