You can still enjoy a good book, even if you can’t leave your home. The Visiting Library Service offered through the Strathmore Municipal Library helps local people still access materials, even if they can’t travel from their homes, or facility to the Lambert Centre.

The service is for people who are unable to leave their homes due to a long-term or short-term illness, or for people with mobility issues, people confined to home, in the hospital and other facilities.

“People can call the library and say they want to access Visiting Libraries,” said Lea Jensen the co-ordinator of the service.

“I visit them to find out what kind of books they like and the author that they like. I talk to them every second week to see how they are doing,” said Jensen.

Enrolled in the program, participants can still drop by the library in person to collect books.

Jensen explained that once a week a volunteer comes and delivers the books she has prepared for participants.

The books are delivered throughout Strathmore.

“The volunteers are security cleared, so they are very trustworthy people,” said Jensen. Individuals can borrow books, audio books, magazines, and DVDs. Loan periods are for four weeks.
