One man is dead following a drowning incident at Little Bow Provincial Park. On November 24, Vulcan RCMP were called after two males fell through the ice while fishing. One of the males was able to get out of the water, and the second male succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP, EMS and Lomond and Champion Fire Departments were on scene.

It’s believed that two men were on the ice fishing when one male fell through the ice and the other tried to rescue him, but also went through the ice.

According to police, a passerby threw a rope and managed to rescue one male. They were unable to access the second male who fell in.

A 59-year-old male from Calgary was transported to a local hospital, but did not survive the incident.

Break and enter foiled

In other Vulcan area news, an alert neighbour called 911 after seeing suspicious activity on a rural property. This resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

On the evening of November 22, RCMP responded to a property on Highway 529, which was believed to be vacant. Police found two suspects in a garage on the property along with a cube van.

53-year-old Robert Enrique Sanchez Anazco and 52-year-old Ligaya Alinsugay Yerbury are charged with break and enter and commit theft.

They are scheduled to appear in court in Lethbridge on December 9, 2019.

“This is a great example of neighbours watching out for neighbours, and allowing the RCMP to handle suspicious situations,” said Sergeant Troy Dobson of Vulcan RCMP Detachment. “In this case, the situation was handled with no threat to any public safety.”
