There was a strong rumble that went through Strathmore at 10 am Monday morning.

Hundreds gathered alongside Highway 1 in Strathmore to show support for the 2022 Freedom Convoy.

Approximately 20 truckers, accompanied by 100-150 other vehicles, rolled through town as onlookers cheered and honked their horns.

The Freedom Convoy 2022 aims to bring awareness to vaccine mandates. The federal government announced in November 2021 that Canadian truckers crossing into the U.S. would need to be vaccinated or face a 14-day quarantine on their way home.

The policy took effect last Saturday, despite opposition from the trucking industry, which has warned it could lead to supply chain issues.

Cindy Vandebeek, sat warmly in her truck with her husband as the convoy rumbled through town.

“This is important to me because I'm 62, I have health reasons for being fully vaxxed and my husband is a senior and I believe they shouldn't make the vaccines mandatory. Truckers work hard, they bring us our products and goods. We need them, and the 38,000 that were laid off, should not have been. So, go truckers go!”

After the convoy passed by, Shaun Lotman from Quenell, BC, stopped to fill up his rig at the Esso gas station along Highway 1. He has been following the convoy in his truck bed camper.

“This is very important to me and I believe every Canadian wants to have any free choice or freedom of their own body, mind and soul forever. Otherwise, we are headed down the wrong path and we are doomed if we don’t stand up.”

The Convoy will continue to drive across Canada until they reach Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
