Each year Wheatland Family & Community Support Services (WFCSS) accepts grant applications from non-profit organizations offering programs to residents in Wheatland County.

Lynn Walker Chief Administrative Officer for WFCSS said, "Every year we put an opportunity out to the community to provide funds to programs that can enhance different programs available to people in our community."

"For us being rural, it really helps us to provide money because it allows these programs to come out into the rural communities and helps with situations where families can't necessarily get into a central location," said Walker.

There are over 209 FCSS offices throughout smaller communities in Alberta and they each have their own funding. The funds for the FCSS organizations come from both the provincial and local government, the provincial portion is 80 per cent while 20 per cent is provided from local municipalities. "These funds are giving to the different FCSS offices and they map out their dollars according to how it would best serve their community," said Walker.

FCSS supports programs like 5 For Life, Bridging The Gap, Parent Link, and the libraries in three villages in Wheatland County.  The deadline for the grant applications is January 31, 2019, at 4 p.m. It is preferred if an organization would like to apply to contact the WFCSS office to see if they would qualify.
