Kick-off your weekend with Earth Day.

Earth Day is a day to celebrate the environment and is held annually across the globe. This year Earth Day is held on Friday, April 22. But in Strathmore, the Strathmore Municipal Library have got a head start and will be offering programming on Thursday, April 21.

We spoke with Carmen Erison, Assistant Director of Library Servies who spoke about the in-person events planned for local kids.

She explained that in the past they have hosted programs that focused on going green and celebrating the Earth.

“We've done programs where we've taken eggs and planted seeds so that kids can take them home and grow their own gardens. We've done many really fun activities just to really teach kids about the environment,” she said.

This year they will be partnering with the Wheatland Youth Network. There will be two sessions, one from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and one from 11 to noon.

Erison recommends that participants register ahead of time at the library’s website at strathmorelibrary.ca/earthday.

"We will take drop-Ins up to a maximum of 30 participants per session, so registering guarantees you a spot in the program, but we will accept drop-Ins to fill up the programs that day,” she said.

Kids will have the chance to enjoy a number of stations with arts and crafts projects.

Erison said they will teach children about the environment and what's important but all within fun and engaging activities.

Earth Day activities at the library are free to attend to register visit strathmorelibrary.ca.
